Igor Iofe is a Dutch-based trumpetist/composer who, among other influences, has a special place in his heart for Armenian folk music, represented in his recent release ''Cold Wind''.
Spearheaded by a soloing trumpet ripping it out on middle-eastern scales, the composition gracefully rests on an array of organ drones. Contemplative and deep, the trumpet is played with skill and immense attention to detail, not only cherishing each phrase, but with each note colored distinctively for the listening pleasure. The meditative nature of the music is no short of hypnotizing and even though highly elaborate, the entirety of the musical arrangement has a consistent and charismatic vibe.
Trumpets are great and we can't wait to hear more from Igor Iofe, but for now here's ''Cold Wind'':
