Fiona Joy Hawkins is a name we have grown to not only recognize but appreciate too, which is further signified by her recently released piano tale "Sunrise at Ularu Solo".
Taking off on a cinematic, minor-key movement, the music captivates the listener with a well refined melody and a high-end delivery that is as dynamically, as it is emotionally rich. The pianist then takes a magnificent turn into a major key, maintaining a lot of the melodic structure, only now painted in a new kind of energy, one which glows with forward movement, courage and intent. The piece then elegantly returns to its minor-key origins, leaving the listener moved and complete - much like the piece itself.
