Counting Waves "Lighter Than Air": A stunning first encounter


Counting Waves is a Canadian neoclassical project who is debuting on our blog with a piano composition paying every due to its title - "Lighter Than Air".


Confidently taking off on it's elegant, cinematic melody the music brought about feelings of liberty, as well as anticipation (perhaps for more liberty?) in me. Lightly stepping from note to note, you can almost imagine the fingers of the pianist run along the keyboard, as if imitating the dance of a hypothetical ballerina. Despite the melody threaded mainly in a minor key, there isn't much of the typical melancholy to this piece - on the contrary, the composer makes it all sound quite encouraging, delicate and beautiful.


A stunning composition from a new name that we can't wait to hear from again. Here's "Lighter Than Air":
