French composer, pianist and performer, Arthur Rey, presents a neoclassical piece about acceptance, entitled “Perséphone”.
Persephone starts soft and distant. The thuds of the piano’s hammer become as musical as the strums of the strings. Beyond every gesture echoes a distant chant of vocal reverb. As the melody moves, it gathers more energy and angst. It becomes more articulate with what it’s trying to say until it arrives at a sudden waltz. As the dance quickens, the soft anxieties of the beginning fade. The waltz then develops into a heavier dance, gathering even more intensity until a breaking point where it whisks itself back into silence.
